Amit Taneja

Bio/Specialty Area(s):

Amit currently serves as the Co-chair of the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals, and as the Associate Director of the LGBT Resource Center at Syracuse University. Amit holds a Master's Degree in College Student Personnel and is currently working on his doctorate in Higher Education. His dissertation focuses on the intersection of race, class, gender and sexual orientation for LGBT students of color on college campuses. Amit has worked professionally in Residence Life, Disability Services, LGBT Resources, and Orientation on different college campuses. He has also taught courses in Women's Studies, Sociology, LGBT Studies and College Success seminars. In his spare time, Amit serves as a consultant and speaker on a range of diversity issues, and he has been a featured speaker at many different types of higher education institutions including University of South Florida, Union College, Utica College, Ithaca College and SUNY Cortland.

Amit can offer trainings, workshops and presentations in the following areas:

  • General LGBT Ally Development Program
  • Keynote addresses for lavender graduations or conferences
  • Educational keynotes that are satirical, humorous, poignant and engaging in ways to challenges the stereotypes around the LGBT community, and to encourage participants to be Allies to the LGBT community
  • Trainings for Residence Life and Student Affairs Staff on LGBT and larger diversity issues
  • Lectures and consulting on issues faced by LGBT Students of Color
  • General Transgender Ally Development Program aimed to educate participants about issues and concerns faced by Transgender individuals, especially as they relate to college campuses
  • How to create a LGBT Resource Center on a college campus
  • LGBT Rights - an interactive, informative and engaging session on the current state of LGBT rights
  • Creating Transgender inclusive policies, practices and campus climate
