Bio/Specialty Area(s):

A former NYC stand-up comic now living in rural Vermont, Ken Schneck currently serves as the Dean of Students at Marlboro College. He has provided extensive LGBT and ALLY training for every type of educational institution: from high school to law school, public to private, secular to faith-based and everything else in between. In 2006, Ken created and toured "Queers, Jeers and Beers," a multi-media presentation exploring the relationship between alcohol & other drugs use and LGBT students using movies to stimulate dialogue. No matter the subject of the presentation, Ken's goal is to provide audiences the opportunity to question their own beliefs even as they apply the knowledge to become better allies and make their campus community safer for ALL of its members.

Ken received his Ph.D. in Education in 2008, completing a dissertation entitled "That's So Gay: Deconstructing the word gay and its place in the daily parlance of high school students." He is currently traveling around the the Northeast, presenting his research and implications on the ubiquitous and damaging use of the phrase "That's so gay."

His specific areas of presentation/consultation include:

  • That's So Gay: How three, small meaningless words are changing meaning
  • Queers, Jeers and Beers: The relationship between alcohol and other drugs and LGBT students
  • "Nice to Meet You, I'm Gay": Coming out issues for job-seeeking new professionals and graduate students
  • Red Cross, ROTS, and Rainbows, Oh My!: How to assess campus acceptance for LGBT issues
  • Building Campus and Community Coalitions to Support LGBT Students
