Question:
Where
can I find information regarding HIV and testing related to
LGBT populations on campus?
Answer:
Overview
Detailed below are several questions and
answers from various campuses that responded to a question
answered on our listserv
- Do other colleges who offer HIV testing
give options to students with regards to testing methods?
If so, which options? Campuses offer several options
from the traditional blood draw to the Orasure Oral Swab
test.
- What fees are charged? Fees range
from no cost to $18 for lab fees of the campus responses.
Testing included confidential and anonymous testing options.
- Do you do any "off-site" testing? (this
means out of the Health Center, like at a program) Most
campus health centers do not offer off-site testing. Those
that did are on a very limited basis i.e. at World AIDS
days events. Most campus centers worked with off-campus
testing agencies for off-site testing.
- Are any of the LGBT Staff trained to
be pre/post HIV counselors? The responses to this question
were split fairly evenly from those that had trained staff
and those that didn't. Once campus worked with peer health
educators in that role.
