Q. How can I find
out if a campus has an LGBT student group?
A. We don't know
of any up-to-date website that lists all GLBT student organizations
in the US. Here are some sites you can use to start your search:
Queer
America:
You can often find organizations by area
code or zip code, but it is not always current. They have around
4000 listings - including community organizations, but these include
some broken links or outdated information.
Delta
V:
This GLBT directory lists groups by state.
When last checked, there were 131 organizations (including several
Greek organization) and campus LGBT offices listed.
Campus
Links Web Ring:
A few campus organizations have joined the
Campus Links web ring, operated by Youth Resource. They claim to
verify the links each fall. It is not a comprehensive list, but
at least it is updated periodically. At last check, they had 13
campuses represented (they only include organizations with websites
that link to the ring). Their number feel when the webring had to
move and all members had to change code on their site on get dropped
(most seem to have gotten dropped).
Gayellow
Pages:
This site and the printed directory is reasonably
current but many campus groups don't seem to submit info -- there
are only around 145 U.S. and Canadian college/university groups
and LGBT campus offices listed on the website (apparently more appear
in the print version but I lack access to the current edition)
Rainbow
Query:
Quick search engine finds a good number
of listings (191 at last count) but not all of them are student
organizations (they get extra points for linking to the Consortium
though!).
Pride
Links:
It is hard to tell how comprehensive this
list is, but it seems relatively current. A state by state listing
of student groups is available at http://www.pridelinks.com/Education/Student_Resources/United_States/.
Our search of the web suggests that assembling a current and
comprehensive directory of campus LGBT organizations is a very difficult
task. If you find a such a directory or have others that you think
are good additions to this list, please
let us know.
