Frequently Asked Questions

Q. We have set up a newsletter committee for our LGBT office but we need a name! Any suggestions?

A.. Here are names of newsletters that are produced at various campuses. Liberate one of these for your own use or perhaps use these as inspiration to come up with a unique name for your own campus newsletter.

UC Davis: "Rainbow Connection". The monthly calendar that accompanies it is called 'On The QT'-- no knows exactly what the QT stands for--the best explanation so far is "Queer Time."

U of Minnesota-Duluth:  "The Pulse" -- "it's our claim to consistent awareness and to have "the pulse of the queer community at all times!"

Pennsylvania State University: "OutRider" -- a term for a journalist or any person that is on the frontier lands spreading the news.

Iowa State University: "The Set," but no one in the student group can remember why that is the name. Perhaps the name of their listserv would double as a newsletter name: QUOC (Queers Unite On Campus).

Metropolitan State College of Denver: "Out Around Campus".

Duke University: "Out Lines"

NYU: "QueeRead: By, For, and About theNYU Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Ally Communities."

Univ. of Maryland College Park: "Queer View Mirror"

Washington State University: "OutSpoken"  -- replaced their old newsletter, "Breaking the Silence."

Univ. of California -Riverside: "OUTLander," because we are the "UCR Highlanders," historically, also called "Dish."

Univ. of California - San Diego: "The Rainbow Newsletter."

Texas A&M University: "OUTtakes."

Other titles (campus not specified):

"OUTburst"
"Ten Percenters"
"Out on Campus"

A suggestion by Shaun Travers: if you have something that feels consistent with the way things are, or reinforces pre-existing identifiers with your office/organization, go with that. It keeps things simple, which makes things easier for everyone as far as identification... "Oh that must be an LGBT publication..."
