Title IX Coordinator
Swarthmore College invites applications and nominations for the position of Title IX Coordinator. As one of the nation’s finest undergraduate educational institutions, Swarthmore provides just over 1,600 exceptionally talented students with an education that combines rigorous, engaging intellectual inquiry with a vibrant, caring community. Global in outlook and diversity, Swarthmore draws students from around the world and all 50 states. The College employs approximately 784 outstanding people full-time, including 186 tenured and tenure-track faculty. Located 11 miles southwest of Philadelphia, the College’s 425-acre campus is a designated arboretum and the setting for a creative intellectual community.
The Title IX Coordinator will report directly to the President of the College, with a dotted line to the Dean of Students. This individual has primary responsibility for: ensuring compliance with the requirements of the College’s Title IX efforts; overseeing the quality and consistency of College-wide education, training, and outreach related to Title IX; and coordinating the College’s response and investigation of complaints related to gender-based inequity, harassment, and violence. In addition to these responsibilities, Swarthmore’s Title IX Coordinator will serve as a central resource for all campus constituencies on a broad set of issues related to Title IX, including bystander intervention, community awareness, ally training, and comprehensive sexuality education. This leadership position will play a key role in the College’s collective efforts to build and maintain an even safer and more gender-equitable campus climate for all members of the community. In addition, the new Title IX Coordinator will be expected to bring knowledge of the current and emerging legislative environment, as well as national issues and trends as they relate to this area. The next Coordinator will also develop and implement a long-term vision for Swarthmore around Title IX, helping to ensure that the campus community is safe for all who live and work at the College.
The College seeks a strategic thinker who can implement plans in this area, and a collaborative team member who has the ability to build relationships across the institution, is trustworthy and approachable, and strives to serve as a valued resource to students, faculty, administration and staff. This critical hire will be positioned to help Swarthmore College remain true to its core mission and values.
