Job Description
Responsibilities:
Provide individual support and non-academic advisement and referrals to students; Provide student advising and general support to UMKC LGBTQIA students and LGBTQIA student organizations
Provide supervision to one Graduate Assistant for LGBTQIA Programs & Services (Pending Funding)
Advise the LGBTQIA Affairs Student Council and provide support to their annual budget allocations and campus programs
Provide management and leadership to the Rainbow Lounge programs and events
Provide leadership to annual LGBTQIA Programs: Welcome Week, Bi-Visibility Day, Ally Photo, LGBT History Month, Trans Awareness Month, Pride Month (April), and the Lavender Graduate Banquet & Pride Awards.
Coordinate and facilitate university trainings including Safe Space, LGBTQIA 101, Trans 101, etc. to department and academic units
Establish and maintain relationship with academic units, providing educational presentations enhancing the support and inclusion of LGBTQIA awareness and topics in interdisciplinary classrooms
Responsible for the development, implementation and assessment of LGBTQIA programs
Serve as liaison to Multicultural Student Affairs and Division of Diversity and Inclusion to enhance support and social justice agenda of queer students of color
Represent LGBTQIA Programs & Services on the Women’s Center Advisory committee to the Chancellor
Represent LGBTQIA Programs & Services on the Student Health & Wellness Advisory Committee
Support Office of Student Involvement initiatives and programs
Division of Student Affairs
Assist with the advisement of the Dean of Students LGBTQIA Partnership Committee
Serve as division liaison to units and departments supporting the inclusion and development of LGBTQIA initiatives
Serve on the Chancellors LGBT Council
Provide management of the LGBTQIA Leadership Scholarship program; The LGBTQ Empowerment Fund; The LGBTQ Emergency Grant. Facilitate the application and selection process; maintain a relationship and support the endeavors of our LGBTQIA Scholars
Work with the Director of Student Involvement to provide policy guidance on LGBTQIA initiatives.
External Engagement & Service
Serve as official liaison to community partners and constituents, providing programs and resources for campus and students.
Serve on the Mid-America LGBT Chamber of Commerce Mentor Program Review Committee
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, or related field. Three years demonstrated experience and knowledge of LGBTQIA topics and concerns on a college campus. Knowledge of the LGBTQIA community, issues faced, and cutting edge solutions and resolutions. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentations. Experience coordinating student-related activities and programs.
