Hi Consortium Colleagues!
I hope your enjoying the summer months so far.
I'd like to know if your institution permits faculty and staff to have a Name in Use/Preferred Name option. If so, can you let me know? I will compile a list and send out to the list-serve.

Hi Lee!
Here at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ, faculty, staff, and students all have the ability to indicate a preferred name that would be visible on class rosters, Blackboard Learn, and the online directory. There is a Change of Name Form that we use internally. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hello, Lee!
Northeastern University: we do have name of use options for faculty/staff and our system of record for faculty/staff is Banner.

University of North Texas does not have a Preferred Name option. Students do have the option.

Hi Lee,
Yes, at Denison University (Ohio) HR has a "chosen name" field in Banner for all employees and students.

Hi Lee,
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside also has a preferred name policy: https://www.uwp.edu/live/offices/studentaffairs/preferredname.cfm
I'm not sure if the exact same policy applies to faculty/staff or if we abide by UW system policy for HR matters. However, I do know it's possible, as we have had staff transition in the past and were able to change their name as it appears for email etc.

We have limited options currently for faculty and staff to use preferred/chosen name, but will be expanding these options over the 19/20 school year |
