Hello,

Apparently, we are working on the a dorm renovation and I just got invited to a meeting with the architects. Ideally, we are looking at options for bathroom remodels. Particularly we want to make them both accessible and available in gender inclusive, ways rather than specifically gendered.

Anyone have any examples to share. We are meeting with architects on April 1st, so I am hoping to have some examples before then.

Thanks in advance,

aaron

Hi Aaron,

When we built our newest residence hall, they decided to use "pod-style" bathrooms. Each full wall, locking stall has its own toilet, shower and sink. I don't have any specific plans or blueprints but if you send me an email ([email protected]) I can try to connect you with folx in residence life that might have more information.

Best,
Jennifer

During one of our recent residence hall renovations at Rider University, as a part of our campus commitment to expand the number of gender-inclusive restrooms, we prioritized gender inclusive restrooms in our design. We ended up converting our common-area bathrooms to about 10 stand-alone individual, privatized bathrooms on each floor. They're not the best photos, but attaching as a visual. Our gender-inclusive restroom list is available online: https://www.rider.edu/student-life/diversity-inclusion/center-diversity-inclusion/resources (Click on LGBTQ+). Good luck, exciting project and opportunity.
