Research Technician at Kansas State University in the Division of Biology - part-time to support laboratory research experiments with the aim of understanding the genetic basis of cell migration using the fruit fly model system.

The McDonald lab studies how cells move within the three-dimensional environment of tissues, both during development of organisms and in cancer. Specifically, we use the Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) model to identify new genes involved in cell migration, using a combination of live imaging, genetics and cell biological approaches. We have collaborations with researchers to apply this fundamental knowledge to tumor invasion of human glioblastoma, a devastating brain cancer. Techniques to be used include immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence of tissues, fluorescence microscopy, live cell imaging, cell culture, molecular biology and biochemistry techniques using standard molecular biology laboratory protocols, and genetic manipulation of Drosophila. The researcher will be expected to support the lab maintenance and will provide both intellectual and technical input into projects within the lab.

Kansas State University embraces diversity, and promotes inclusion in every sector of the institution.
