Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology and Legal Studies

Kenyon College, a highly selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, invites applications for a one-year visiting position in the Department of Sociology at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning fall semester 2019. This is a one-year replacement position with the possibility of reappointment for a second year.

The successful candidate will have prior experience teaching the Sociology of Law and/or Law and Society courses. The candidate's research/teaching interests should complement those of our current faculty. Faculty responsibilities include teaching a 3/2 course load over two semesters and informal advising of students. Courses to be taught include Introduction to Legal Studies (a survey course for the Law and Society concentration), Exploring Law: Methods of Socio-legal Research (a social science methods survey course that focuses upon law-related phenomena), and Senior Seminar in Legal Studies (a thematic upper-level project-based course). Other courses of interest might include deviance, sociology of law, law and gender/sexuality, mass incarceration, criminology, race and law, international law, and comparative law. As a reflection of its commitment to interdisciplinary studies, the College encourages the teaching of courses that may be cross-listed and contribute to African Diaspora Studies, American Studies, Asian Studies, Environmental Studies, International Studies, Latino/a Studies, Public Policy, and Women and Gender Studies. A Ph.D. in Sociology is preferred at the time of appointment although applications from advanced graduate students will be considered.
