Salary: $42,000 – $47,500 annually and furnished studio apartment, dependent on education and experience

As part of the Division of Students, Equity & Success, the Office of Student Life creates co-curricular opportunities for student engagement that strive to build community through events, leadership trainings, and campus-wide student engagement activities. Student activities are organized to create an atmosphere of self-directed learning and an opportunity for encountering diverse cultures, beliefs, and lifestyles, with an emphasis on program variety and service to diverse populations.

Under the direction and leadership of the Director, the Assistant Director of Student Leadership & Residential Life serves as an integral part of advancing the College's commitment to student engagement, student success and retention, equity and inclusion, and student leadership within a diverse campus community. The Assistant Director collaborates on the planning and implementation of the student life program as well as a residential life program for a new housing facility serving approximately 230 students. The Assistant Director provides live-in, day-to-day direction for community development, Resident Advisor (RA) programming, and student leadership development within the residential and campus setting.

Student Life/General:
• Provide leadership and general direction for the office of Student Life; serve as the main contact for the office in the absence of the Director
• Utilize student development, leadership, and social equity theories and frameworks, facilitate the intentional development of a community that strives to meet the needs of all students/residents
• Assist in the development of student engagement and student leadership initiatives, including coordination of workshops, training, promotion of social equity and student advocacy, in partnership with Student Life staff and campus partners
• Work closely with the director, including assist with management and directly support the overall operations of and planning for student life and the residential life program, participating in short-term and long-range planning, budgeting, operations, and assessment
• Establish a strong working relationship with campus partners to implement and enhance programs and initiatives to promote equity and support students from underrepresented populations
• Assist in the advising of the Associated Student Government (ASG), including meeting with student leaders and serving on ASG-led committees
• Assist with management of departmental budget including revision and/or presentation of annual S&A budget proposals
• Staff major events and programs, including campus events, e.g., Convocation, Commencement, New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, Sunfest, Earth Day, etc.
• Represent the college, division, and office at regional/national conferences, professional and community meetings, etc.
• Ensure compliance with appropriate state and college policies, procedures and regulations
• Serve on college-wide committees as needed/assigned

Residential Life:
• Develop and implement a comprehensive residential programming model that represents and meets the holistic needs of Shoreline’s diverse student populations and promotes their social and educational development
• Recruit, select, train, supervise and evaluate four Resident Advisors (RAs); lead weekly staff meetings and hold bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with student staff to support residential life programming, community development, and RA performance/development
• Serve as primary staff on an after-hours emergency on-call rotation to provide support for residents and live-in student staff
• Recruit, train, and supervise live-in Program Assistants (PAs) to support programming initiatives within the hall
• Work with students to establish a residential student organization that plans events and advocates for students’ interests and needs within the community; recruit and advise participants
• Develop and implement strategies to assist students in the adjustment to college life and promote academic, career, and personal success
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with residents through one-on-one and group interactions, behavioral interventions, and crisis response
• Facilitate roommate agreement process and address roommate conflicts as they arise
• Communicate questions and concerns related to housing operations and facilities to the property management company as well as supervisor; work collaboratively with the property manager, including assist in the planning and execution of move-in and move-out processes at the beginning and end of each quarter
• Clearly communicate with residents regarding housing and college policies and procedures, upcoming events, and important resources
• Assess the student experience and living-learning program
• Manage budget and allocation of programming resources
• Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Master’s degree related to Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related
• 2 years of experience in residential life, student programs, and/or student leadership/development
• Experience responding to and managing crises involving college students
• Experience collaborating with and meeting the needs of underrepresented groups, enhancing inclusion, and advancing social justice

KNOWLEDGE OF
• Student development theory, leadership development theory, and equity and social equity frameworks
• Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, Access
• Social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
• Techniques for effective presentations and communication in a multicultural environment
• FERPA, Title IX, and other applicable laws, rules, ordinances, and regulations related to students

• Prepare clear/concise materials resulting in effective oral and written communication
• Handling difficult and sensitive situations, using sound judgement within legal guidelines
