Subject :Assistant Professor - Education in Francophone and Plurilingual Settings (University of Toronto)
The Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning (CTL) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto invites applications for a tenure stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a specialization in Education in Francophone and Plurilingual Settings. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2020 or shortly thereafter.
Candidates must have earned a PhD in Sociolinguistics, Applied Linguistics, or another language-related field by the date of appointment or shortly thereafter. We seek applicants with a strong research background in the fields of linguistic diversity in education and education rights from an international perspective. Candidates must demonstrate involvement in the development and management of large-scale international projects addressing issues relating to linguistic minorities (including Indigenous minorities) and mobilities, and the changes that these growing movements imply for education and educational policy. Candidates are expected to have an emerging record of research excellence as demonstrated by high-quality publications in top disciplinary journals and/or a research pipeline that meets high international standards, strong endorsements from referees of high standing, presentations at significant conferences, the submitted research statement, and an emerging program of research of sufficient quality to develop into an independent and innovative externally funded research program.
Evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level is also required, as demonstrated through the teaching dossier, teaching accomplishments, teaching evaluations, sample course syllabi, strong letters of reference, and other materials submitted as part of the application. Knowledge of both French and English is required, and the successful applicant must have taught courses in both languages. Knowledge of at least one other additional language is an asset, as is international teaching experience.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an independent and innovative externally funded research program at the highest international level, supervise graduate students, and teach masters and doctoral courses in French and English. Teaching will in particular take place in the collaborative specialization “Éducation, francophonies et diversité,” including graduate students from CTL’s Language and Literacy Education and Curriculum and Pedagogy programs, as well as students from programs in the Department of Social Justice Education.
The successful candidate will also be an active member of the Centre de recherches en éducation franco-ontarienne (CRÉFO), an interdisciplinary research centre dedicated to the study of social and language practices of French-speakers, and will be expected to take on responsibilities in CRÉFO including some administrative duties. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our scholarly community through research, teaching and service.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
