Assistant Professor of Sociology, Anthropology or Political Science -- Global Human Rights-14027

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking a full-time, benefits-eligible, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sociology, Anthropology or Political Science with expertise in Global Human Rights. The current position is part of the development of a global human rights hub at ASU. Preference will be given to candidates who can collaborate with existing Political Science, Sociology and Anthropology faculty at ASU who work in this area and whose research interests focus on examining global human rights law in relation to minority groups, including but not limited to gender, LGBT, race, and dis/ability.

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences is presently in a period of expansion and innovation around new initiatives and new programs. Since Fall 2017, the School has added ten new tenured / tenure- track faculty, including seven new faculty in Political Science, Sociology, and Anthropology. This academic year, the School has been approved to recruit five additional tenured / tenure-track faculty, including the current position.

Required Qualifications: The successful candidate must a) have a doctoral degree in sociology, political science, anthropology or related social science-focused field by the time of appointment; and, b) a record reflecting training and experience relevant to the field of global human rights; c) a research agenda that is focused on global human rights law, and d) demonstrate excellence in research commensurate with appointment at the level of Assistant Professor at ASU.

Desired Qualifications: a) research interest that focuses on examining global human rights law in relation to minority groups, including but not limited to gender, LGBT, race, and dis/ability; b) empirical research experience and interests that align with current faculty expertise in migration and refugees, gender in a comparative context, and/or international law and organizations; c) demonstrate potential to establish a strong, externally- funded research program; d) demonstrate experience in promoting interdisciplinary collaborations in research; e) a demonstrated ability to teach B.A. and/or M.A. students in this field; f) evidence of commitment to undergraduate and graduate mentoring; and, g) demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including first generation students.
