Advanced Assistant ¬¬¬¬or Associate Professor of Sociology or Anthropology #14026

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking a full-time, benefits-eligible, tenure-track Assistant Professor or tenure-eligible Associate Professor of Sociology or Anthropology whose research focuses on either: a) gender and migration in transnational context; and/or b) global human rights. The current position is part of the development of a global human rights hub at ASU and coincides with a concerted effort to build strength in and further support for Sociology within the School and across ASU. Preference will be given to candidates who can collaborate with existing Sociology, Anthropology and Political Science faculty and whose research interests focus on examining the fields of gender, migration, and/or human rights.

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences is presently in a period of expansion and innovation around new initiatives and new programs. S¬¬¬¬¬¬ince Fall 2017, the School has added ten new tenured / tenure- track faculty, including seven new faculty in Political Science, Sociology, and Anthropology. This academic year, the School has been approved to recruit five additional tenured / tenure-track faculty, including the current position.

Required Qualifications: The successful candidate must: a) have a doctoral degree in Sociology, Anthropology, or a related social science field by the time of appointment; b) a research agenda that is focused on either migration and gender in a transnational context, and/or global human rights; and c) demonstrate excellence in research commensurate with appointment at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor at ASU.

Desired Qualifications: a) Priority will be given to scholars currently at the advanced Assistant Professor or early Associate Professor level; b) Evidence of experience teaching in either migration and gender in a transnational context, and/or global human rights; c) Research interests that align with current faculty in either migration and gender in a transnational context, and/or global human rights; d) Evidence of the potential to establish a strong, externally- funded research program; e) Experience teaching and mentoring students to conduct research at either the graduate or undergraduate level; f) Experience in leadership of undergraduate or graduate programs; g) Demonstrate experience in promoting interdisciplinary collaborations in research; h)Experience contributing to curricular and program development; and, i¬¬¬¬) Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including first generation students.
