The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Division of Student Affairs is seeking candidates for the next Director of University Centers. The Director administers all functions of the University Centers (Student Union and Whitney Center) and all campus activities. The Director administers an annual budget of approximately $15 million and provides leadership to approximately thirty full time staff. This includes a leadership team of six staff, including three Associate Directors, an Academic Program Specialist, a Financial Specialist, and a Director of Dining. In addition, the Director provides leadership for up to five graduate assistants from the Student Affairs Administration program. The Director supervises staff who supervise/advise the Leadership and Involvement Center, graphic services, student organizations, fraternities and sororities, program committees, Audio Visual Services, University Reservations, student employment, co-sponsored programs, and facility operations for the two student centers (Student Union and Whitney Center.) The Director advises student government and also serves as a member on a variety of university committees.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

Required:

· Master’s degree in Higher Education, college student personnel, educational administration, leadership, or a related field.

· A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in student union, student leadership, student engagement/involvement or related facilities administration.

· Demonstrated experience in advising student organizations.

· Demonstrated competency in fiscal and budget management.

· Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity and social justice.

· Demonstrated experience in facilities management, building operations, construction/renovation and/or master planning.

· Demonstrated experience supervising, advising and working with diverse students, faculty and staff.

· Demonstrated understanding of how to meet the co-curricular, social, and cultural needs of students and the campus community.

· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

· Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop a support staff.

· Demonstrated ability to interpret institutional policies, plans, objectives, rules and regulations, and communicate the interpretation to others.

· Demonstrated ability to prepare and present detailed studies, budgets, reports, and recommendations.

· Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

· Doctorate degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Educational Administration, Leadership or a related field.

· 10 or more years of progressively responsible experience working with university center/unions in a higher education setting.

· Demonstrated experience in working with University Dining, either as a supervisor of a contracted vendor or a campus operated service.

· Demonstrated understanding of the campus needs for dining and dining’s role in the recruitment and retention of students.

· Demonstrated experience in building renovation or construction.

· Demonstrated experience with comprehensive program review, student learning outcomes assessment, or program evaluation.

This is a 100% full-time, annual (12 month) position, which includes a State of Wisconsin benefits package. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2020 but is negotiable. The search process will be ongoing until the position is filled. First review date will be March 26, 2020.

This week I was asked to teach the Intro to LGBTQ+ Studies for fall. No one has taught it for 4 years. They asked me what books/texts I would like. I am just wondering if anyone is currently teaching and has a suggestion for books or texts I should ask for?
