San Diego State University is seeking applicants with demonstrated experience and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of historically underrepresented groups.

Position Information
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of the Center for Intercultural Relations, the PRIDE Center Coordinator performs complex Student Services professional work characterized by independent student advisement and guidance in individual and group settings. Such advisement involves basic counseling techniques and may concern career, academic, learning, campus life and/or related issues. The incumbent develops and implements programs that facilitate growth in the areas of scholarships, personal and leadership development, campus and community service involvement and the clarification of values, and also provides guidance and leadership, through programming and advising efforts, to student clubs and organizations at SDSU. The incumbent spends substantial portions of time in advisement sessions of considerable duration and utilizes skills usually gained in graduate courses in counseling and guidance, human relations or related fields. Under the supervision of the Associate Director of the Center for Intercultural Relations, the incumbent is responsible for completion of program-related tasks or projects assigned by the administrator. The incumbent should be organized, innovative, enthusiastic, collaborative, student-oriented, self-motivated, creative, and able to communicate well with the students, faculty, staff, potential donors and other members of the community. The incumbent will also provide assistance with other areas, including coordinating the development of the new programs and initiatives, overseeing budgets, and coordinating a variety of programs. Evening and weekend work are routinely part of this position.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $4,421 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,421 - $6,299 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.

A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.

Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills

Considerable knowledge of student and leadership development theory, identity development models, group and individual behavior principles, and implication for practice.
Knowledge, sensitivity and understanding of the social, political, personal and cross-cultural needs of LGBTQ+ people and demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTQ+ community.
Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with key senior management, faculty and administrators regarding sexual orientation and gender identity.
Experience and skills in budgeting and reporting.
Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
Master’s degree in Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Gender Studies, or a related field.
One year experience in the program area to which assigned.
Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
A Doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for three years of experienced for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
