The assistant director for Multicultural Student Affairs will primarily oversee cultural programming for the office of multicultural student affairs (OMSA) to increase students’ awareness and understanding of diversity and social justice. The assistant director will work to increase the volume and visibility of OMSA’s cultural awareness programming and broaden the impact of these efforts through collaboration with campus partners and student organizations. As a member of the multicultural student affairs team, the assistant director also will provide departmental support and guidance on effective methods for retaining and providing cultural support to historically marginalized identities on campus and provides individual support to students in their academic pursuits and personal development.
The primary responsibilities of the assistant director for Multicultural Student Affairs include:
- Develop and implement diversity and multicultural programs that build awareness and foster understanding and acceptance among members of the campus community. Programs include but are not limited to Identity365, Black History Month, and Cultural Heritage Celebrations
- Design, coordinate, and facilitate educational, cultural competence diversity, and social justice workshops to the campus community.
- Provide leadership to student initiatives, including advising student organizations, serving as a role model, mentor, and student advocate
- Develop and maintain strategic and collaborative partnerships with university departments, programs, and outside constituent groups that support historically marginalized identities and bridge multiple identities, engage in advising, and encouraging/supporting students on issues related to identity development.
