The LGBTQ+ Director is a newly created position at Western Washington University. This is an exciting opportunity to cultivate a welcoming academic, cultural, and social environment for LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff and to advance Western’s mission of “...bringing together individuals of diverse backgrounds and perspectives in an inclusive, student-centered university.”

As our LGBTQ+ Director, you will oversee and provide a wide array of services to students, faculty, and staff to increase awareness, critical competencies, and intellectual engagement across campus and with local communities. To develop the LGBTQ+ Office, you will work in collaboration with existing student, staff, and faculty organizations and groups. You will engage in all responsibilities with a commitment to equity and inclusion.

You will report to the Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services, with a consultative relationship with and to the Provost.

Master’s degree in a discipline such as, but not limited to, Higher Education Administration, Sociology, Cultural Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Human Services/Social Work, Political Science, Equity and Diversity in Law, Policy Studies, or related field
Minimum 5 years experience working in higher education or a related field
Demonstrated ability to plan, design and implement programs, curricular and co-curricular activities, seminars, trainings, and events
Demonstrated effectiveness in working with LGBTQ+ communities, including leadership in promoting equity and inclusion, and working effectively with diverse LGBTQ+ populations
Demonstrated knowledge of current literature and theory relating to anti-oppression work, and strategies for creating inclusive environments
Demonstrated experience working with equity and social justice issues facing historically and currently marginalized communities, including examining the intersectionality of identity
Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with broad and diverse groups of faculty, staff, students, and community members
Demonstrated ability to work independently and make decisions that align with organizational mission and goals
Demonstrated fiscal management skills, including experience monitoring budgets
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
