Reporting directly to the Vice President for Institutional Equity & Diversity, the Assistant Vice President leads, manages and supports policies and initiatives related to equity and helps to establish, implement and maintain compliance processes that are clear and accessible to members of the Brown community. The Assistant Vice President also provides critical leadership in addressing cultural climate concerns in the Brown community. The Assistant Vice President serves as the EEO/AA and ADA/504 Coordinator and develops key relationships with the Office of General Counsel, University Human Resources and Student and Employee Accessibility Services staff. The Assistant Vice President works closely with the Title IX Program Officer and Equity Case Coordinator.
The main charges of the new Assistant Vice President will be to (1) lead efforts to streamline Title VI, VII, IX and ADA/504 policies with the goal of improving the campus climate pursuant to the DIAP; (2) ensure compliance with federal and local laws, prepare the University’s affirmative action plans and hear appeals related to ADA/504 complaints; (3) assist the Vice President in evaluating data from campus climate surveys and developing a plan to address their findings; (4) provide leadership for the OIED and in the campus community in the Vice President’s absence; (5) identify compliance related professional development opportunities for OIED staff; and (6) staff, chair or serve on University committees as requested and represent the University to external parties as appropriate.
Qualifications:
• An advanced or terminal degree is required.
• A minimum of eight years of administrative experience in a complex institution of higher education (or
related experience) is required, with a record of progressively responsible leadership positions,
preferably in the area of equity, diversity and inclusion.
• Expertise in Title VI, VII, IX, ADA/504 and or EEO/AA is required, together with a successful record
of analysis, reporting, planning and compliance management.
• Candidates should show evidence of active engagement and familiarity with current and emerging best
practices and issues in equity and diversity in higher education.
• Notable professional leadership, including participation in professional organizations, presentations at
professional conferences and a record of publication, is strongly preferred.

• Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse perspectives that faculty, staff and students bring to their work, including academic perspectives and experiences deriving from race, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, ability, gender, religion, sexuality and other intersectional identities, are essential.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and discretion, are critical to this role.
• Candidates should demonstrate strong collaborative energy, integrity, sound judgment and the ability to make difficult decisions and to manage multiple, competing priorities.
