Job Purpose

The Center for Student Diversity at Towson University is accepting applications for an Associate Director, Student Diversity & Development. The Associate Director, Student Diversity & Development provides administrative and managerial leadership for the Center for Student Diversity with an emphasis on providing support for Latinx, undocumented, and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, etc. (LGBTQ+) communities, ensuring that services and initiatives are provided that contribute to and address the intellectual, social, and developmental needs of Latnix, undocumented, and LGBTQ+ students. The Associate Director will also educate the campus community about inequitable/homophobic/transphobic/heterosexist social structures and assist in creating a healthy, inclusive campus climate that affirms Latinx, undocumented, LGBTQ+ students. Advocacy for diversity, inclusion, and social justice is a major aspect of this position.

Description

Oversee the daily operations, including budget management and supervision of Graduate Assistants, student workers, Pride Mentors, and other student volunteers; collaborate with a broad range on campus entities - including student organizations, Office of Student Activities, Counseling Center, Career Center, Health Center, Fraternity & Sorority Life, and other institutional partners - to create and execute a calendar of programs and activities that focus on Latinx, undocumented, and LGBTQ+ issues and overall student development - including activities that focus on sexual orientation, sex, and gender identity/expression, Latinx identities and cultures, and undocumented services; coordinate, develop, and promote leadership development and educational programs through personal development seminars, conferences, retreats, forums, programs, and mentoring; work to create an inclusive and affirming campus climate that welcomes and supports the success of Latinx, undocumented, and LGBTQ+ students and allies; advise Latinx, undocumented, and LGBTQ+ students and student organizations; represent the Center for Student Diversity and the Division of Student Affairs on departmental, divisional, and university-wide committees, and maintain collaborative partnerships with interdisciplinary departments and initiate co-sponsorship opportunities within and outside Student Affairs; and assist with other duties within the Center for Student Diversity and Division of Student Affairs as assigned.

Qualifications

Master's Degree and three years of experience. Knowledge of Higher Education, specifically of Latinx, undocumented and LGBTQ+ student development theories and best practices. Experience working with underserved/underrepresented student populations, specifically Latinx, undocumented, and LGBTQ+ students. Ability to work with a wide range of students, staff, and faculty in a diverse college setting.

Preferred: Master's Degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Social Work, Cultural Studies, or a closely related field. Proficiency in Spanish preferred.
