Job Description

The Coordinator (Student Development Specialist III) is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating programs, policies and services for TAMU students related to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Resource Center. This position is responsible for the coordination of student-centered programs, visibility, advocacy and support services for the campus community on issues affecting gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students.


Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five years’ experience in student affairs work or related specialty area with a bachelor’s degree
  • Three years’ experience in student affairs work or related specialty area with a master's degree


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Attention to detail
  • Dependability, ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others, facilitation and public speaking skills, program planning, safe zone programming and risk management skills
  • Knowledge of LGBTQ+ student experience and needs
  • Ability to maintain lawfully allowed privacy

Required Licenses and Certifications:
  • Valid driver’s license

Other Requirements or Other Factors:
  • Some weekend and evening work or travel may be required


Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Master’s degree in higher education administration or related field
  • Three years experience in student affairs related work
  • Experience working with and educating about LGBTQ+ populations


Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and diversity education
  • Ability to facilitate/engage in civil dialogues


Salary: $45,000.00 - $49,000.00

Responsibilities:
  • Engage in individual developmental and/or educational conversations with students
  • Appropriately refer to university and community resources and services
  • Coordinate and supervise the administrative and program operations of the GLBT Resource Center
  • This includes oversight of day-to-day operations
  • This also includes collaborative participation in development of long-term strategic plans, office evaluation and assessment, and office budget
  • Design, implement, and evaluate programs to meet office goals
  • Coordinate office correspondence, publications and reports
  • Coordinate the development, revision, and distribution of marketing, education and informational publications and materials
  • Some local travel may be required to fulfill these duties that require use of a vehicle and the ability to legally drive
  • Design, implement, and evaluate presentations and workshops to students, faculty, and staff in alignment with office mission
  • Train, hire, supervise and evaluate graduate and student staff in the GLBT Resource Center
  • Implement strategies relating to high impact learning in alignment with university initiatives
  • Serve as representative on Department, Division and University committees and task forces, at events, and to department stakeholders as assigned
  • Advance the philosophy of multiculturalism and promote diversity in staffing, programming and student leadership. Perform other duties as assigned
  • Some weekend and evening work or travel may be required
  • Maintain positive working relationships with office and department stakeholders. Serve as office/department liaison for LGBT+ student needs within both the campus and surrounding communities
  • Work collaboratively with supervisor to develop evaluation and assessment for office
  • Implement established assessment and utilize for program improvement
  • Appropriately maintain expenditures within office budget as discussed and agreed upon with supervisor
  • Performs other duties as assigned
