Job Description:
This position will be responsible for coordinating programs for LGBTQIA+ Student Services; serve as resource for faculty, staff, and students; work with Admissions in recruiting; and cultivate a college environment that supports gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, and romantic orientation. Support the Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) in institutional initiatives, programs, policies, etc., that serve to promote and support Augsburg's strategic vision around the areas of equity and inclusion and meet the needs of diverse faculty, staff, and student populations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design and implement programs to assist Augsburg University in creating a campus environment that supports inclusive understandings of gender and sexuality and that fosters a community that honors and affirms the wholeness of all identities.
  • Plan events and programming which provide social space for LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies.
  • Serve as a liaison between LGBTQIA-identified students and staff and faculty members.
  • Advise and assist undergraduate admissions in the recruitment and retention of LGBTQIA-identified students.
  • Spearhead LGBTQIA-supportive policies and procedures on campus, including the coordination and facilitation of Augsburg's Ally Training program.
  • Advise Queer Pride Alliance and Queer Indigenous People of Color student organizations.
  • Assist CDO in proactively and retroactively addressing institutional issues related to equity and inclusion.
  • Assist CDO in measuring campus climate progress through analyzing and synthesizing relevant data.
  • Manage the logistics of the Augsburg University Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program.
  • Remain current on best practices and emerging trends in equity, inclusion, and engagement, and apply that knowledge to inform work with CDO and within CDO-related initiatives.
  • Assist in the staffing of CDO-related events as necessary to ensure that logistics and other event details are implemented as planned.

ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
  • Investigate and support students, staff, and faculty through LGBTQIA-related bias incidents on campus.
  • Maintain Augsburg University Equity and Inclusion Website.
  • All other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisors.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science (or equivalent) required.
  • Four years experience in working with LGBTQIA+ communities required.
  • Two years experience in working with additional marginalized communities required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Advanced education equivalent to master's degree or specialist certification preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in program planning and event management.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize and organize workflow.
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of student/human development.
  • Ability to supervise, teach, train, advise, and mentor students.
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines and be attentive to details.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate patience and understanding.
