The GLBT Center is a unit within the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity, reporting to the Vice-Provost. The mission of the Center is to engage, develop, and empower members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities and their allies. In order to fulfill that mission, the Center helps students connect to form social support networks, offers identity-based and health-related information and resources, consults with students individually and collectively on issues related to personal identity and academic success, refers students to a wide variety of resources on campus and in the local community, provides professional and leadership development opportunities, and hosts educational events, and community engagement programs.

The Center’s vision is of a campus where students, staff, faculty, and alumni feel a shared responsibility to increase their individual understanding of and comfort with diversity, to enhance their ability to connect with members of their own communities, to build coalitions across identity groups, and to work collaboratively in order to raise awareness, promote respect, and create a culture where they can advocate for equity, inclusion, and social justice on behalf of themselves and others.

Essential Job Duties

The Program Coordinator will have a demonstrated knowledge of issues related to the GLBT community and will work to support members of the GLBT community in order to ensure their success and retention, with a focus on providing support for student identity development as well as academic preparation and enhancement. The Program Coordinator will also help provide resources and educational opportunities for the broader NC State campus community in order to promote a climate of awareness and inclusion. The Program Coordinator must have a strong commitment to the goals of the Center, effective people skills, and well-developed written and verbal communication skills. Due to the nature of this position, the schedule will vary and may regularly include nights and weekends.
