The associate director of diversity and social justice education is responsible for the curriculum, program design and implementation of facilitated learning experiences surrounding diversity, cultural competency, and social justice education. This person provides departmental support and guidance on effective methods for retaining and providing cultural support to underrepresented students on campus in order to sustain a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all students.
The primary responsibilities of the associate director of diversity and social justice education include:
  • Supervise, train and evaluates one professional staff member and one graduate assistant
  • Design and implement diversity education curriculum for classroom instruction, campus-wide training, workshops, and resources related to cultural competence, diversity and social justice for all students, faculty, and staff
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement programs, workshops, and events related to diversity and social justice education including diversity dialogue series, social justice awareness month, and the social justice program, etc.
  • Develop, recruit, and train peer educators (student facilitators) to provide training modules and presentations for campus entities such as student organizations, student employees, and University 101 first year courses.
  • Provide leadership to student initiatives, advising multicultural student organizations monitoring budgetary items, and serving as a role model, mentor, and student advocate.
  • Oversee office public relations, marketing efforts, and social media presence.
