Coordinator of LGBTQIA+ Programs and Services (GP562A)

The Office of Intercultural Relations (OIR) at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the Coordinator of LGBTQIA+ Programs and Services (full-time, 12 month) position. This position will develop and implement programs and services to meet the needs of the LGBTQ student community. Other duties include: designs and implements initiatives, programs, and activities that foster and contribute to the enrichment of the university community and to the development of LGBTQIA+ identity; coordinates and assesses trainings such as Safe Space and serve as Safe Space Co-Chair and coordinate Ally Bystander Intervention; advises student organizations in the development of programs and activities serving as an advocate, mentor, and educator; plans, develops, and coordinates student programming efforts designed to increase students’ and campus community awareness.

Required Education: Master’s degree in college student personnel, higher education, sports recreation administration, student affairs, or related field.

Required Qualifications: Basic/working knowledge of and awareness of evolving trends in the LGBTQIA+ community. Familiarity with LGBTQ community needs, resources, solutions, and resolutions. Prior experience in planning and coordinating LGBTQIA+ and multicultural programming. Supervisory experience with graduate and/or undergraduate student employees. Basic/working full-time experience in administering and overseeing university student programs. Some experience in designing promotional and informational materials. Some prior experience with LGBTQ advocacy work. Some knowledge of student development theory, student involvement, and engagement strategies to increase student retention, progression, and graduation. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentations. Expertise with social media outreach, including Snapchat, Twitter, and Instagram. Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to build relationships across cultures with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
