Subject :Program Coordinator, Multicultural Student Services - University of Virginia

The University of Virginia's Division of Student Affairs is expanding its team and is looking for a Program Coordinator (PC) in the Office of the Dean of Students, Multicultural Student Services (MSS). Program Coordinators work closely with the Deans and Directors in the Division of Student Affairs in several different capacities including programmatic, student support, and potential incident response. In addition to support of ongoing programming in MSS, this position will be responsible for development and administration of LGBTQ-related programs and services, including management of the LGBTQ center at the University.

Programmatic responsibilities include developing/coordinating programming and outreach related to LGBTQ student initiatives, including advising student organizations and organizing awareness and educational programming. Often UVa Student Affairs professionals are not managing programs themselves, but are supporting students in designing and implementing the programs that help them achieve their goals. The PC will also help to collect and manage data to support decision-making as defined by the unit’s strategic planning initiatives.

Student support responsibilities include serving as an advisor, advocate and resource to students, particularly LGBTQ+ students; identifying and supporting the academic, intellectual, social, cultural, and educational needs of LGBTQ+ students; educating the university community on the issues, challenges, and concerns of queer students; helping students solve problems; developing collaborative partnerships with university departments and outside constituent groups; and responding appropriately to challenges and/or crises.

PCs may also have responsibilities relating to incident response and crisis management. These may include assisting with management of university incidents, crises, or other matters pertaining to students' sense of belonging. PCs may also have duties related to operational continuity in the event of emergency and/or institutional closure. PCs do not serve on the “Dean On-Call” rotation.

A competitive applicant for the Program Coordinator position will have many of the following preferred knowledge areas, skills and abilities:
•Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to the concerns and issues facing the LGBTQ community and the intersections of race, class, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity;
•Ability to coordinate resources, evaluate information, and identify alternative solutions;
•Ability to work independently or as part of a team;
•Understanding of the University's educational mission, strategic aims, and programs, including student culture and unique student self-governance model;
•Understanding of student development -- including specific knowledge of higher education LGBTQ+ student development theories and best practices -- identity development, intersections and complexity of social identities;
•Demonstrated experience in advising, counseling, program development, multicultural education, and social justice concepts;
•Experience with assessment and data-driven decision-making; and understanding of student development, identity development, intersections, and social identity complexity.

This is a three-year appointment. The anticipated hiring range is $40,000-$50,000, commensurate with qualifications. Please submit a cover letter, CV/resume, and three references with telephone number and e-mail address online at https://uva.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/UVAJobs, Requisition number R0002368.
