The University of Utah is currently seeking a passionate and committed Director to lead the LGBT Resource Center.

Position Summary

Provides leadership and oversight of all programs, activities, policies, personnel, budgets and special projects of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center; supports LGBTQQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual) students and, more broadly, people with marginalized (a)genders and (a)sexualities; ensures an efficient and effective program to provide services for LGBTQIA students, staff, and faculty while educating the campus about LGBTQIA concerns.
This position is a joint report and has responsibilities both within the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Equity and Diversity (OED).

Work Tasks and Duties
  1. Provides staff supervision for two permanent staff, one graduate assistant and three student staff.
  2. Budget Management.
  3. Develops and implements programming, educational training, and professional development workshops on LGBTQIA issues for both students and University staff and faculty, including those in Health Sciences.
  4. Advocates for LGBTQIA students, staff, and faculty by working to create a positive campus environment and address barriers within campus culture.
  5. Works with students in an advisory or mentoring capacity concerning educational and personal matters, making referrals to appropriate campus and community agencies as needed.
  6. Promotes relationships with new and existing funding sources by participating in fund-raising, overseeing grant writing and grant seeking.
  7. Evaluates, monitors and influences the University’s policies and procedures on issues affecting the LGBTQIA population and assists this population in advocating for itself.
  8. Works with University Marketing and Communication to highlight the LGBT Resource Center and services within the community.
  9. Provides information on LGBTQIA issues to the University community and makes available current written materials and resources relating to them.
  10. Represents the University as a consultant, advocate, and resource on matters related to LGBTQIA issues.
  11. Develops and maintains professional and cooperative relationships and activities with University students, faculty, staff, and alumni in various student services, and academic and administrative departments.

Qualifications

This position requires a Master’s or Doctoral degree in Higher Education, Social Work, Psychology or a related field plus four years administrative experience that includes budget development, administration and personnel management.
The successful candidate must have a demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to working with LGBTQIA issues from a critical and intersectional lens. Must have a commitment to and experience with diversity including, but not limited to, age, race, ethnicity, class, culture, sexuality, gender identity, gender expression and religious/spiritual identity. Advanced interpersonal skills are required in addition to outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred: Experience working in a higher education setting and with grant writing and/or fund-raising.
