ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) is a department within Student Success that consists of a team of diversity educators and equity-minded practitioners who strive to develop intercultural mature global citizens. The work of the office contributes to the commitment of student success, inclusive excellence, and career readiness by facilitating education, advocacy, and community building throughout campus. OMA promotes initiatives that celebrate diversity and contribute to enhancing the visibility of the underrepresented students at our institution. OMA strives to create mattering and a sense of belonging for underrepresented students to positively impact their persistence and graduation rates through community building, leadership development, cultural competency, and serving as a bridge to institutional resources

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Coordinator for Cultural Initiatives and Programs is responsible for the development and implementation of programs supporting the experiences of students from various cultural backgrounds and heritages. This position will serve as an office liaison for campus partners and multicultural student organizations. As a member of the Office of Multicultural Affairs team, this position will also provide support and guidance on successful methods for retaining and providing cultural support to underrepresented students on campus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop, coordinate, and manage cultural programming. Develop and implement strategies to create greater visibility for our diverse student body.
Foster relationships with students and student organizations from underrepresented backgrounds, and work collaboratively to support the multicultural community.
Support, attend, and participate in campus diversity initiatives, meetings and programs, and serve on various committees. Participate in evening and weekend activities. Manage platforms such as departmental website pages and social media sites.
Develop and facilitate dialogue sessions surrounding social issues such as racism, oppression and privilege. Create and implement a variety of learning sessions, facilitate panel discussion groups, coordinating co-sponsored programming with student organizations, academic departments, and other campus units surrounding social and cultural issues.
Supervise and manage student leadership boards, and graduate interns, when applicable.
Identify and utilize assessment tools to administer assessments and generate data. Provide data for OMA assessment and university-wide reports. Utilize best practices to operationalize OMA's data driven, outcomes-focused, cultural competency assessment plan, which includes regular and ongoing data collection and analysis of work.
Prepare and manage budget with sound fiscal decision making to achieve departmental goals. This position is considered essential personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires a Bachelor's degree, with at least one year of experience in student/affairs/student personnel position. A Master's degree in Higher Education or College Student Personnel preferred. Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelor degree requirement for this position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling, or Social Work. Experience working in the field of diversity/multicultural affairs. Knowledge of diverse student concerns in higher education. An equity-minded practitioner with strong organizational skills, programming and time management, a demonstrated ability to build relationships across cultures, and facilitation experience.

SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:

Experience working with students of diverse cultural backgrounds, knowledge of issues facing diverse student populations. Knowledge of racial identity development theories, critical race theory, multicultural organizational theories and intercultural communication theories. Demonstrate strong problem solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems and devise solutions. Project management skills with a strong focus on attention to detail in regards to program planning and logistics. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentations. Experience coordinating student learning activities and programs. Experience advising and providing resources to students and/or student groups. Demonstrate a willingness to work evening and weekend hours.
