Hello!

I hope this email finds you well. My name is Mallori Girard and I am a doctoral candidate at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas working under the supervision of Dr. Andrea Vest-Ettekal. The working title of my dissertation is "Safe to Play: Understanding the Impacts of Social Injustices on Transgender Youth Sport Participation". My primary research question aims to understand the link between social injustices, namely transphobia, exclusion, and discrimination, on transgender and gender non-conforming youth's likelihood to participate in competitive sport. Further, I aim to explore the impact that personal resilience and feelings of safety have on this relationship. Lastly, I intend to explore how competitive sport participation during adolescence leads to thriving in young adulthood for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals.

I am currently in the data collection portion of my study, hence the reason I am reaching out. I am looking to recruit participants, ages 18 to 25, who identify as transgender, gender non-conforming, genderqueer, etc., to take part in a short (10-12 minute) questionnaire assessing their experiences during their high school years, as well as their current quality of life in young adulthood.

I would be beyond grateful if you could potentially share this message within your organization:

Howdy folx!
Do you or someone you know identify as transgender or gender-nonconforming? Would you like to take part in a research study aiming to understand more about the barriers to sport participation for gender-queer folx? We are looking for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals who are between the ages of 18 and 25 to complete this short questionnaire.

This study is COMPLETELY anonymous, but it’s going to require a bit of teamwork! Once you complete the survey, or even if you don’t finish it, all we ask is that you send it to 3 friends who identify as non-cisgender. Let’s use the power of community to break down barriers!
Just use the ANONYMOUS link below to head on over to the survey!

Again, thank you very much for your time, consideration, and contribution to my study.
