The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center (LGBTRC) promotes cross-cultural understanding of LGBTQ culture and heritage and provides educational and cultural support for students who identify or are questioning as well as assisting allies within our university community. The Center was established on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with the dual purpose of assisting the university in providing an environment that promotes a welcoming and dynamic atmosphere through the development of educational, cultural, socio-political, historical, and social programs that lead to greater recruitment, retention, advancement, and empowerment of LGBTQ students/allies, and to be a resource to the entire campus and surrounding local community regarding LGBT history, contributions, and issues.

PRIMARY POSITION FUNCTION/SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director reporting to the Director of the LGBT Resource Center will develop, implement, and coordinate programs, services, and activities for the LGBT Resource Center that educate and promote a campus-wide understanding of LGBTQ history, contributions, and issues of importance to the LGBTQ community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop programs and events that highlight LGBTQ culture and community.
Collaborate with other OIIR units to develop programs that encompass various intersecting identities (i.e., race/ethnicity, nationality, immigration, faith, ability status, multiracial) with the LGBTQ community.
Coordinate LGBT History Month, National Coming Out Day, Quench Lunch on Us program with various UIUC departments and create marketing specifically for these programs (i.e., electronic newsletter, website, and social media).
Coordinate ally training workshops, working with affiliated student organizations/programming.
Communications and marketing of Center events/programs.
Obtain funding support for LGBT Resource Center programs through co-sponsorships, grant-writing, and the Student Cultural Programming Fee (SCPF).
Maintain documentation/files on all events, including but not limited to program sign-in sheets, program assessments, photo albums, and video archives.
Oversee “Congratulatory,” which involves the planning and implementation of the LGBT Resource Center ceremony.
Coordinate the LGBT Resource Center Q-Connect and Leadership Retreat.
Focus on programmatic responsibilities, which include outreach, training, and education within the campus community on LGBTQ issues as well as participate in advocacy, advising, and referral services that support LGBTQA students, including race/ethnicity, diverse sexualities, and gender identities/expressions.
Serve as liaison to some of the Student Affairs units.
Coordinate and supervise arrangements for campus resource fairs, on- and off-campus presentations, and special weekend programs.
Hire, supervise, and evaluate student interns and recruit student volunteers for center/community outreach.
Advise LGBTQ registered student organizations (RSO) and create leadership development workshops for their executive board members and general membership.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in Higher education administration, college student personnel, counseling, or related field.

Preferred Education:
Master’s degree, preferably in higher education administration, college student personnel, counseling, or related field

Required Experience:
Two years of professional experience in higher education working with student organizations. Demonstrated knowledge of or experience with offering training or educational programs on diversity or LGBTQ issues.

Preferred Experience:
Experience developing community and public engagement programs, public speaking, and grant writing. Experience in marketing and communications. Experience supervising and training student staff (undergraduate and/or graduate) and volunteers.

Environmental Demands: Some evenings and weekends are required as needed.

SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

This is a full-time Civil Service Program Coordinator position appointed on a [12]-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. Salary is commensurate with experience.
