Organizational Background
The Greater Seattle Business Association (GSBA) is a chamber of commerce for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and allied community. The Mission of GSBA is to combine business development, leadership and social action to expand economic opportunities for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community and those who support equality for all. In addition to business development, GSBA is committed to strengthen community, advocate for small business and equality, increase tourism through our tourism initiative, Travel Out Seattle; and invest in the next generation of leaders through our Scholarship Fund. GSBA and the GSBA Scholarship Fund have a $2 million operating budget with 13 full-time employees. It is governed by a 30-member Board of Directors.

Description of Position
The Business Training Specialist and Grant Manager is a multifaceted role. The largest component of this position will be administering and managing the Communities of Opportunity grant from King County. This grant funding will launch a Transgender Economic Empowerment Initiative that will provide training and education to the transgender and LGBTQ people of color communities on how to become small business owners. In addition, this position will provide training and education to current business owners on how to promote a transgender and LGBTQ people of color-inclusive workplace through workplace policy change.

The second largest component of this role will be to work with the Business Outreach and Education Fund (BOEF) which is a grant funded by the Office of Labor Standards. Through this grant, the Business Training Specialist and Grant Manager will be responsible for conducting outreach with the Greater Seattle Area business community to educate business owners on Seattle Labor Ordinances.

We are looking for a Business Training Specialist and Grant Manager who has a passion for GSBA’s mission, for the LGBTQ community, excellent outreach and training skills, and the ability to think critically, problem-solve, and work both independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail and experience in successfully managing multiple pressing deadlines with variable project participants.

This is an incredibly fun and fast-paced job for a creative, energetic, and dynamic person who wants to use their skills and passion for entrepreneurship, equality, and education to benefit the LGBTQ community with a specific focus on working with the Trans community and LGBTQ communities of color.

This position is based in Seattle and reports to the Director of Membership, Outreach, and Engagement.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Community Outreach
  • Extensive outreach to diverse communities to identify transgender, gender non-conforming and LGBTQ people of color who are interested in exploring becoming a business owner
  • Work extensively and collaboratively with community stakeholders, including coalition partners, GSBA members, and other relevant groups
  • Provide outreach and canvassing of business districts in Seattle
  • Business Training
  • Create a curriculum that will introduce and help people in the trans community and LGBTQ communities of color to explore and develop the skills necessary to become an entrepreneur
  • Develop and execute a series of workshops focusing on transgender, gender non-conforming and LGBTQ people of color interested in exploring entrepreneurship and business training
  • Develop best practices resources on transgender, gender non-conforming and LGBTQ people of color employees for distribution to employers
  • Work with businesses of all sizes on implementing plans to better serve their transgender, gender non-conforming and LGBTQ people of color employees
  • Provide one-on-one counseling and training to small business owners to ensure they comply with the Office of Labor Standards regulations
  • Engage in economic analysis of the impact of Seattle-specific labor laws on small businesses
  • Work with GSBA Marketing & Communications team to properly spread awareness of projects
  • Grant Administration
  • Work with the Transgender Economic Empowerment Coalition to successfully implement the Communities of Opportunity grant in the 2-year grant cycle
  • Organize and coordinate regular meetings between coalition members
  • Gather reporting data from coalition members in a timely manner to submit necessary information to King County
  • Maintain and verify payment records, review invoices, and record receipts
  • Prepare regular reports on project status
  • Ensure that all coalition best practices are maintained and that all grant requirements are upheld
  • Work closely with King County’s designated consultant on implementation plans and strategy

Professional Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience and deep commitment in advancing the causes of the transgender, gender non-conforming and LGBTQ communities of color to advance economic equality for all
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Demonstrated experience on grants management
  • Experience in adult education and training
  • Ability to write and edit clearly, compellingly and quickly
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to take initiative, work independently, or as a helpful team member
  • Commitment to GSBA and the GSBA Scholarship Fund’s mission, understanding the importance of small business, social justice values and a personal commitment to equity and inclusion
  • A demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and be composed under pressure
  • An ability to work flexible hours when necessary, including some evenings and weekends for special events
  • A sense of humor and the ability to work joyfully in a fast-paced environment


Salary
Salary is $45,000-$55,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Excellent employer paid benefits including vacation, 100% employer paid medical, dental, and vision coverage along with short term disability insurance and option to invest in an individual retirement account with an employer match.
