The Position
The Director of The Center will be responsible for developing, directing, and administering all operations, programming, services, and resources that advance the mission of The Center, the values of the University of Nevada, Reno, and the mission of the Division of Student Services. Responsibilities include: developing and implementing strategies for increasing and strengthening the retention of diverse student populations (both undergraduate and graduate); offering services that provide support to students from underrepresented populations; facilitating diversity related programs that foster inclusive learning for all students to promote education, interaction, and understanding across cultures; and providing expert advice, consultation, and support to faculty, staff and community members in the areas of inclusion, diversity, and multicultural issues and concerns that impact students. The Director is also responsible for supporting the work across the University that focuses on promoting campus awareness of diversity issues and initiatives as well as fostering a respectful campus climate that supports social justice, equity in education, and broad participation throughout the campus by all members of the University community. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Life Services, the Director will supervise five full time staff and an array of graduate and undergraduate student staff and interns.

Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree and five years of related experience or a master’s degree and three years of related experience or a doctoral degree and one year of related experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating diversity or cultural programs. The University of Nevada, Reno is seeking a collaborative professional with demonstrated leadership ability who will work effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of identities, cultures, and backgrounds; a professional who demonstrates a passion for working with students; is skilled with strategy, operations, and supervision of professional staff; and has a track record of both advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education and in student retention. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to support and mentor students, particularly those from underserved and underrepresented groups, and possess the skills to engage effectively with all students, build consensus, increase student success and completion, and promote education, interaction, and understanding across cultures.
